UPDATE:
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the construction of the Fountain had been delayed. Things are now moving along according to schedule. Our target date for its completion is Columbus Day Weekend. The Fountain is being installed for 3 very important reasons. The first is to add beauty to the outside of the Church. The Fountain will be a beautiful addition to the front of the church and a reminder to those passing by of the flowing waters of baptism and our commitment to our baptismal vows. This is the reason we have water fonts at the entrances of churches, so when we dip our hand in the water of the font, we will be reminded of baptism and our need to live in accordance with the commitments that accompany the Sacrament and how God restored us to grace. The second reason for the Fountain, is to honor the person in whose memory it is dedicated. The donor of the Fountain is Silvia Gulla, and it will be dedicated in the loving memory of her husband Bob Gulla. When I was at Immaculate Conception as a Deacon, Bob was on the Finance Council and was one of the reasons at the time for the parish’s financial success. It was not just his expertise in matters of finances that we wish to remember him of course, but more importantly for his strong devotion to his faith, and his loving commitment to his family and friends. He was a loving husband and father and is someone who made an indelible impression on me as a young man when I was at Immaculate Conception as a Transitional Deacon from 1996 to 1997. The third reason for the Fountain is for the purposes of remembering the deceased of the parish. The memorial walkway leading to the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the names that will be placed in stones around the Fountain will be a constant reminder to us of our beloved loved ones who have died, and will be a beautiful way of memorializing them for years to come. The funds raised from the engraved stones will be an important way in helping our parish meet its financial goals.
OLD NEWS
We are installing a fountain for our church. A donor contributed the fountain and we are holding a fundraiser to install Memorial Stones along the walk way area of the front garden dedicates to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Each stone will be one foot by one foot and will have etched in it the name of a person the donor wishes to memorialize. Each stone will cost $100 (which includes the stone, installation, and engraving up to 10 letters; additional letters cost $3 each).
As you know, the stone slates presently installed get very slippery when wet and especially in icy weather. They are chipping and fraying and having these engraved stones will not only help with the aesthetics of the area but will also remember our loved ones who have passed and make the path safer to walk after rain and snow.
PLEASE CALL GINA DeGIACOMO (401-596-7988) WHO IS ORGANIZING THE DONATIONS OF THE STONES.
