One of the richest artistic and influential treasures of human civilization is the Catholic Church's rich history and tradition of sacred music. “The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.”
Vatican Council 2, The Constitution of The Sacred Liturgy, 1963, 112. At Immaculate Conception Church, we follow and implemant the Second Vatican Council's instructions to foster, preserve, and give pride of place to the rich traditions of sacred music in the Church. The primary purpose of sacred music is to give glory to God at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We do this by singing hymns in the English and Italian traditions, gregorian chant, and choral anthems and motets both traditional and contemporary. All of our music is either led by our parish cantors or the choir. The organ is given pride of place at the Mass and is the principal instrument for accompanying music at the parish. Some of our liturgical songs are accompanied by the piano as well.
One of the main fundemental teachings of our Catholic faith is that the Eucharist is the "Source and Summit" of our faith and that it's the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Our music is intended to grow the faithful's devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and relationship with Jesus through rich, theologically sound sacred music.
"Therefore sacred music is to be considered the more holy in proportion as it is more closely connected with the liturgical action, whether it adds delight to prayer, fosters unity of minds, or confers greater solemnity upon the sacred rites" (Sacrosanctum Concillium 112C).
